Common Sense Exercise: Weight Loss Solutions for the Common Man or Woman
November 30, 2007
Diet and Exercise. They are the inseparable twins that are seen and heard everywhere. You can’t have any sort of effective weight loss or fat loss without incorporating both into your daily regimen.
This article is going to focus on the exercise aspect. We’re not talking about power-lifting or marathon running, but exercise for the common man or woman.
My wife and I had joined a gym last September, but I had not stepped into the place until almost December. Why, you ask? I was afraid of the soreness and stiffness that accompanies the first several weeks of beginning an exercise regimen. Fear of pain kept me away.
Even my own disappointment at the condition of my body was not sufficient to overcome my fear of starting to exercise. After this past Thanksgiving, however, I weighed in at an all-time personal high. It was shocking, at least to the point that it inspired me to begin working out.
My fears ended up being unfounded. I faithfully take R+ Alpha Lipoic Acid (http://www.ralapure.com), which (among many other things) aids in circulation, and my muscles never really got sore at all.
Using Psyllium For Relieving Constipation
November 30, 2007
If you have asthma, do not take or use psyllium. Some people with asthma have had allergic reactions to psyllium and the powder from psyllium can cause an asthma attack.
Some you may be allergic to psyllium. If you are, you may become constipated or develop dark areas under your eyes.
Psyllium is the fiber part of seed husks from plantain. It is high in a soluble fiber that is called mucilage, so it absorbs water and becomes bulky. It contains almost no insoluble fiber, yet it acts like it has both soluble and insoluble fiber. Stomach enzymes do not easily breakdown psyllium, so it moves into your colon like insoluble fiber.
Psyllium fiber acts on your colon relieving constipation.
In your colon, psyllium activates peristaltic action and helps to clean your colon of any stagnation that has occurred there. By adding moisture to dry hard fecal matter, psyllium helps to move fecal matter through your colon. As psyllium seeds bulk up in your colon, they push against your colon walls stimulating peristaltic action. The soluble fiber in psyllium provides food for good bacteria, which helps them to multiple.
The Role of Nutrition in Martial Arts, Police, Military Personnel
November 30, 2007
For a considerable amount of time, nutrition has not played a prominent role in the life of many martial artists, police, and military personnel as a means of improving performance. Top athletes are always looking for an edge. Although the martial arts are more of a way of life and a life style than a sport per se, the needs of the martial artist are the same as that of the elite athlete.
Mental aspects not withstanding (i.e. mental awareness, strategy, cunning, etc.), the need for speed, agility, strength, flexibility, and the ability to recuperate from tough workouts (and unforgiving sparing partners) is paramount to the success of athletes and martial artists alike. Police and military personnel can also have unique requirements that require them to perform at peak physical and or psychological levels.
Over the past decade our knowledge of sports nutrition has evolved into a science that has swept the athletic world and has been partially responsible for the ever increasing numbers of athletes who are pushing the envelope of human ability and performance. Although a handful of the worlds top martial artists, police, and elite military units have taken advantage of the ‘cutting edge’ nutrition being used by top athletes, the majority of these communities has not taken advantage of the new science of sports nutrition.
Weighing-In On Low Carb Diets
November 30, 2007
With all of the conflicting studies and fuzzy interpretation of information, it’s no wonder that confusion reigns when it comes to the value and safety of low-carb diets. It seems like heated debates are raging everywhere! Whether it’s Atkins, the South Beach or some other low-carb plan, as many as 30 million Americans are following a low-carb diet.
Advocates contend that the high amount of carbohydrates in our diet has led to increasing problems with obesity, diabetes, and other health problems. Critics, on the other hand, attribute obesity and related health problems to over-consumption of calories from any source, and lack of physical activity. Critics also express concern that the lack of grains, fruits, and vegetables in low-carbohydrate diets may lead to deficiencies of some key nutrients, including fiber, vitamin C, folic acid, and several minerals.
Any diet, weather low or high in carbohydrate, can produce significant weight loss during the initial stages of the diet. But remember, the key to successful dieting is in being able to lose the weight permanently. Put another way, what does the scale show a year after going off the diet? Let’s see if we can debunk some of the mystery about low-carb diets. Below, is a listing of some relevant points taken from recent studies and scientific literature. Please note there may be insufficient information available to answer all questions.
Understanding Hypnosis
November 29, 2007
If you want to use hypnosis for therapeutic reasons, there are three personal assets you will need. They are: imagination, concentration, and a genuine motivation to be hypnotized. Each time someone works with a group to induce hypnosis, we can still justifiably say we are talking about self-hypnosis. It is every person’s individual option: they either wish to collaborate with the operator and experience hypnosis, or they do not.
Hypnosis involves releasing some of the power of your subconscious mind, and this takes time and practice. Once learnt, however, it can then be used to improve many aspects of your life. Therapeutic hypnosis is not accessible to everyone, but most of us can reach light or medium states through concentration, coupled with patience. Deep levels of hypnosis produce the best therapeutic results, but even beginners may reach healthy states of relaxation and inner peace.
At the lighter levels of hypnosis, their operators usually experience feelings of relaxation and calmness. It is also possible to perceive some physical changes. Some people, for example, may experience tingling sensations in the fingers, blinking eyelids, a sensation of weight in some parts of the body and others. The intensity of these early experiences is usually low, but a few weeks of practice can teach you how to develop these skills even further.
When is a Diet not a Diet? When Its a Lifestyle!
November 29, 2007
Dieting and weight loss is almost certainly the most lucrative of all health- related businesses both online and off. our waistlines are bulging, our health is deteriorating and diet “guru’s” are on the run..all the way to the bank!
Simply put, we have become a nation (indeed, a World) of overfed, undernourished and over-indulged complainers, whose problems are always “someone else’s fault” and who expect an instant fix for everything from obesity to cancer.
Well guess what? IT ISN’T GOING TO HAPPEN.
Yes, you heard me correctly - unless you actually make some effort, take responsibility and change your lifestyle, no amount of short-term self-denial or little pills/patches/potions are going to make ANY long-term difference.
You see, those of us who are overweight, and that’s over half the population now, haven’t got there overnight. It takes weeks, months even years of eating too much of the wrong foods to get to the state we’re in (depending on just HOW overweight we are). Logic then dictates that it is going to take considerable time, proportional to the original weight GAIN in order to lose significant weight.
Nitric Oxide Supplement
November 29, 2007
Nitric oxide supplement has many benefits and there are many positive effects of nitric oxide. A free form gas produced by a breakdown of the amino acid Arginine, nitric oxide is produced by the body and the effects of nitric oxide supplement include nitric oxide supplement’s ability to act as a cell communicator.
Nitric oxide supplement plays a part in controlling blood circulation and nitric oxide supplement is associated with individual pain thresholds as well as message transmissions between nerve cells. The ability of nitric oxide supplement to increase blood flow makes nitric oxide supplement of interest to body builders and other athletes.
When using nitric oxide supplement more nutrients can flood through to the muscles. Thus nitric oxide supplement aids with enhanced muscle enlargement when nitric oxide supplement is used in conjunction with regular physical training. Pain commonly associated with extreme muscular stress is reduced by an intake of nitric acid supplement, allowing athletes to train for longer periods.
Omega 3s: Using Our Heads to Nourish Our Brains
November 29, 2007
We sometimes hear about ways that we can take care of our organs by the foods we injest. When we think about our diet we cannot help but think about the effect our choices have on our heart, liver and other internal and external organs. And yet, what of the brain? When it comes to our diet, the brain has generally been the most overlooked organ, when the brain is actually affected quite strongly by our dietary choices. Long-chain omega-3 fatty acids are among the very best brain nutrients. As it turns out, omega-3’s apparently protect the brain. Omega-3 fatty acids are made out of DHA (or docosahexaenoic acid) and EPA (or eicosapentaenoic acid).
Perhaps the top asset to the brain is DHA, the principal polyunsaturated fat in the central nervous system. DHA is claimed to have a direct effect on brain chemistry, development and functioning. DHA is vitally important for individuals of all ages, but DHA is as critical to a child’s diet as TV shows are to prime time television. The richest single source of omega-3 fatty acids can be found in fish and/or fish oil.
Lose Weight - Diet Tips For Fast Weight Loss
November 28, 2007
Looking to lose weight quickly? The good news is that it’s possible. The bad news is that fad diets and quick fixes have a tendency to not last. The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to make a life-long change in the way you eat, the way you exercise, and the way you approach your relationship with food. Supplements and weight loss products get a bad rap, but they’re not all bad. Taking a daily supplement like a complex B-vitamin or a one-a-day weight management can definitely help maintain a productive metabolism, and as long as you stay away from things with ephedra, diet aids can be a good tool for maintaining a healthy weight management program.
If you’re problem is obesity, it might be hard to focus on a long term goal without seeing some results, and fast. It’s always encouraging to see the first ten pounds melt off like chocolate in your pocket on a hot summer day. Unfortunately, for that rate to continue past the first two weeks is not just unhealthy, it’s dangerous. Don’t be discouraged if your weight loss slows to about two pounds a week. This rate is actually ideal, for it not only will fulfill your long term weight loss goals, but it is healthy and easily sustainable. To get that jump start try something like the South Beach diet, which will kick start your weight loss before transitioning you into a healthier lifestyle that will keep you losing weight and from putting back on what you’ve already lost.
Using Chinese Techniques For Your Health and Strength
November 28, 2007
Chi Kung and T’ai Chi are only two of the keys to self trust and to physical harmony. With the use of these techniques you can succeed with many accomplishments, without having to put yourself through great psychological or physical efforts, violent conflicts or aggression. You may be sure that, once you dominate the genuine laws of the universe, which you assimilate by these methods, it will be impossible for you to be dominated by someone else.
Chi Kung ? the art of internal harmony
Chi Kung is a philosophical system at least 5000 old, which made survived through all those the centuries, to become very popular at the beginning of this millennium. This art of the vital energy is the most advanced and complex method of improving health and longevity, by offering a feeling of harmony with yourself and with the surrounding world. The four main principles of this technique are: the mind, the eyes, the movement and the breathing.
The mind represents the intention, the eyes are considered the focusing of intention, the movement is the action of intention and the breathing is the flood of intention. It obviously takes time and practice to understand their dynamics fully.
